Search our Listings for the venue at which your event is taking place. If you cannot find your desired venue, then it is not one of our listings and you will instead need to use an Event Location. Search for an existing event location, or, if you cannot find one, create a new one. Please search carefully before you create a new location!

To create a new location, uncheck the "Use Existing Location" checkbox.

Please note: If you are selecting an existing venue, you must select it from the drop down. Simply typing in the name will not select it for you.

New Copy Horse Shoe Pond sat lonely within the Adirondack wilderness before Dr. Webb's Adirondack & St. Lawrence Railroad came by to keep it company in 1892. Four years later, Abbot Augustus Low arrived and transformed the beautiful sheet-of-water and surrounding countryside into an oasis for agricultural and industrial experimentation, a meeting place for the well-to-do, and a playground for getting away from his Brooklyn (New York City) activities. His Horse Shoe Forestry Company, Camp Marian, a Post Office, and narrow-gauge railroads resulted, the nucleus of which was the new station he had built for the (then) New York Central & Hudson River Railroad. This program will explore the life and times, and fact and fiction that together have become a lastly and profound legacy for both Horseshoe, New York and its founder "Gus" Low. John Taibi is a native Long Islander who has been residing in central New York since 1994. He and his wife, Barbara, live in a restored New York Ontario & Western Railway depot in Munnsville that is his base of operations for researching and writing about the region's railroad history, environment, and legacy. He is the author of thirteen full-length books and one hundred-fifteen short stories that deal with a variety of railroad subjects. John is recently researching the Adirondack Region for a 4-volume series of books about the New York Central's Adirondack Division. Previous to his coming to upstate New York, he was a photographer whose work appeared in numerous books and magazine articles. In addition to being an author, photographer, railroad environmentalist and archeologist, he is also a popular speaker for historical societies, civic organizations, church groups, and museums. He likes to say that his programs are factual and informative and are presented in an entertaining fashion.

New Copy Despite its name, the Philosophers' Camp of 1858 is not usually considered alongside the early American philosophy with which it is most closely tied. Yet, viewing the excursion through the lens of American Transcendentalism yields vivid insight into the central ideas of this popular philosophical movement. In fact, the way of thinking attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson and his contemporaries is illustrated by the philosophy rooted in the senses. The emergence of the Philosophers' Camp as a cultural landmark develops together with a set of uniquely American ideals of landscape identity and desires. Join us on a seldom traveled route beyond the Adirondack Park as we imagine the philosophical origins and the legacy of this fabled Camp. Marianne Patinelli-Dubay, PhD, leads the Environmental Philosophy Program at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry's Newcomb Campus. Patinelli-Dubay  is responsible for the design and facilitation of rich conversations among a variety of audiences, across disciplines. Initiatives in the Environmental Philosophy Program are meant to bridge humanities content with HWF-specific field knowledge and experience in order to understand the impacts of the relationship between scientific research and the regional land-use policy it advances.
