New Copy The Murph Challenge, named after former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient, Lieutenant Michael Murphy. The Murph Challenge is an intense workout where participants attempt to complete a 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another 1 mile run to finish. The event will be held this Memorial Day at the Olympic Oval in Lake Placid, with heat times at 9:00am, 10:00am, and 11:00am. Participants can register online, or at the Oval the day of the event. The ’MURPH’ is more than just a workout though, It is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor a man who gave everything he had for our country's freedom. The Murph Challenge is also the Official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, awarding over 27 educational scholarships annually. A $10 donation will be collected to go towards the foundation. Don't be discouraged if you can’t do the entire workout. Anyone can do their own version of “Murph” including modifying the run, reps, movements, or even partitioning the workout as a team. The idea is to challenge yourself in the name of Freedom. We invite YOU to join countless others Americans, and register for The Murph Challenge 2018.

New Copy Author Book Signing Event With Angela Kaufman Saturday, August 4th 3:00-5 pm|  Join us as we welcome author Angela to celebrate her newest title,  "Queen Up! Reclaim Your Crown When Life Knocks You Down" Angela will be discussing and signing copies of this unique book.   In Queen Up! Angela Kaufman offers a unique take on using tarot queens to empower women and presents daily exercises to inspire personal development and to “queen up”.  Each of the four Tarot Queens in this system represent an archetypal part of our personalities as well as our experience of being human- the Queen of Wands (inspiration), the Queen of Swords (passion), Queen of Cups (love) and the Queen of Pentacles (abundance).   Meditations and exercises will help women to queen up by discovering the power of archetypes borrowed from the tarot and reinvented in a new context for a new purpose.  Included is a year’s supply of weekly exercises, meditation, rituals and reflections to help readers manifest their dream lives. Angela Kaufman is a lifelong seeker of spiritual connection with a background as a clinical social worker and certification as an intuitive consultant and psychic medium. Angela has co-authored several books including Sacred Objects, Sacred Space: Everyday Tools for the Modern Day Witch. New Copy The Bookstore Plus is excited to host the release of Kate Messner's latest book titled "Breakout".  Come meet and chat with Kate, and get your copy of "Breakout" autographed by her! About “Breakout”| Nora Tucker is looking forward to summer vacation in Wolf Creek--two months of swimming, popsicles, and brushing up on her journalism skills for the school paper. But when two inmates break out of the town's maximum security prison, everything changes. Doors are locked, helicopters fly over the woods, and police patrol the school grounds. Worst of all, everyone is on edge, and fear brings out the worst in some people Nora has known her whole life. Even if the inmates are caught, she worries that home might never feel the same. Told in letters, poems, text messages, news stories, and comics--a series of documents Nora collects for the Wolf Creek Community Time Capsule Project--Breakout is a thrilling story that will leave readers thinking about who's really welcome in the places we call home. Updated Copy to Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey 10 K Run-Saturday, June 16, 2018 Wilmington, NY is the home of Whiteface Mountain and this summer, the home of the Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey Run 10K! But why a Whiskey Run you ask? As it turns out, the area has quite a storied history with liquor, legal and otherwise. During the War of 1812 Wilmington supplied good rye whiskey to the American troops at the Battle of Plattsburgh as part of their daily ration. During prohibition with its proximity to Canada, Wilmington residents distilled moonshine and provided temporary haven for bootleggers crossing the border, and to this day, Wilmington is home to US Barrel, the oldest whiskey barrel cooperage in the Northeast. So with our somewhat checkered history and natural beauty we invite you to join us for the inaugural Wilmington Whiteface 10K Whiskey Run June 16th, 2018 starting at 9:30 am. The 10 K run will begin and end at Pourman’s Tap House on Whiteface Highway at the 4 corners in Wilmington and goes south on Rt. 86 toward Lake Placid, east on Fox Farm Road, straight onto Indian Rock Road, north on Springfield Road and finally west on Rt. 86 ending back at Pourman’s Tap House. Following the race is the awards ceremony with lunch available at Pourman’s Tap House along with free whiskey tasting by area distilleries, raffles, and a demonstration of barrel making by US Barrel with a chance to win a whiskey aging kit. Run participants will receive a t-shirt and a “swag bag” filled with quality local goods. All proceeds will benefit the Wilmington Historical Society. For pre-registration and more detailed information, go to ADKWhiskeyRun. Spectators are encouraged as well, so please add this exciting event to your calendar! Find some fine accommodations.

copy OUR BOOK CLUB PICK FOR June 2018 | "Bachelor Girl" by Kim Van Alkemade On the first Tuesday of June, The Bookstore Plus will host a unique Book Club experience where readers will have the opportunity to discuss the book club pick with the author IN PERSON! Tuesday, June 5th, 2018, at 7:00 pm author, Kim Van Alkemade, will join us to discuss and answer questions about her new book "Bachelor Girl". Our book club is open to the public. To honor the author's valued time, we highly recommend that you read the book and browse through any provided book club guides prior to attending the book club meeting. Book Summary|  From the New York Times bestselling author of Orphan #8 comes a fresh and intimate novel about the destructive power of secrets and the redemptive power of love—inspired by the true story of Jacob Ruppert, the millionaire owner of the New York Yankees, and his mysterious bequest in 1939 to an unknown actress, Helen Winthrope Weyant. When the owner of the New York Yankees baseball team, Colonel Jacob Ruppert, takes Helen Winthrope, a young actress, under his wing, she thinks it’s because of his guilt over her father’s accidental death—and so does Albert Kramer, Ruppert’s handsome personal secretary. Helen and Albert develop a deepening bond the closer they become to Ruppert, an eccentric millionaire who demands their loyalty in return for his lavish generosity. New York in the Jazz Age is filled with possibilities, especially for the young and single. Yet even as Helen embraces being a “bachelor girl”—a working woman living on her own terms—she finds herself falling in love with Albert, even after he confesses his darkest secret. When Ruppert dies, rumors swirl about his connection to Helen after the stunning revelation that he has left her the bulk of his fortune, which includes Yankee Stadium. But it is only when Ruppert’s own secrets are finally revealed that Helen and Albert will be forced to confront the truth about their relationship to him—and to each other.  Inspired by factual events that gripped New York City in its heyday, Bachelor Girl is a hidden history gem about family, identity, and love in all its shapes and colors. About The Author| Kim Van Alkemade has written two historical fiction novels Orphan #8  and Bachelor Girl. Her creative nonfiction essays have appeared in literary journals including Alaska Quarterly Review, CutBank, and So To Speak. Kim was born in New York, NY, and earned a BA in English and History from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and an MA and PhD in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She currently works as a Professor in the English Department at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania where she teaches writing. She lives in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. New Copy Champlain Area Trails (CATS) is celebrating the Grand Opening of the Flying Squirrel Trail Saturday, June 2, at 2:00 p.m. The hike will last an hour and a half to 3 hours, depending on the route hikers select at the loop near the trail’s end. The new trail connects the Split Rock Wild Forest to the CATS Wildway Passage property next to Coon Mountain. The rain date for the Grand Opening is June 11.   The Flying Squirrel Trail got its name when one landed on CATS Trail Steward Bill Amadon as he worked with volunteers building the trail last autumn. “It landed right on my shoulder and surprised me to say the least, “Amadon said. “Even though it looked sort of prehistoric, with its webbed skin from front to back, it seemed friendly and might have been as surprised as I was.”   CATS Executive Director Chris Maron noted the Flying Squirrel Trail’s significance as a connector trail to the state’s forest preserve in the Split Rock Mountain Wild Forest: “This trail runs through the heart of the wildway corridor,” he said, “and gives a real ‘insider’s view’ to an area critical for the protection of wildlife traveling from the lake shore to the Adirondack mountains. It’s a combination of deep forest with moss-covered cliffs and open fields, with some beautiful babbling brooks along the way.”   Because of limited parking at the trail’s beginning at the NYS Lewis Bay Clearing on Lakeshore Road, CATS has made arrangements to keep hikers safe. Hikers should meet by 2:00 at the Wildway Passage trailhead on Angier Hill Road, park their cars, and then ride the free shuttle bus to the hike’s start. They will then hike back to their cars.   The hike is free and open to all. While registration is not required, it is helpful to know how many will hike for planning purposes. Please call the CATS office at (518) 962-2287 or send an email to info@champlainareatrails.com if you can join the hike.
